PM Hun Manet provides four recommendations to the Ministry of Planning to help orient the work

FRESH NEWS: The Prime Minister of Cambodia, Dr. Hun Manet, presided over the closing ceremony of the Ministry of Planning’s annual meeting to review the achievements in 2023 and set forth new goals for 2024 at the ministry’s office here this morning.

Speaking on that occasion, Dr. Hun Manet took this opportunity to make four recommendations to help orient the work of the Ministry of Planning, as follows:

  1. The National Strategic Development Plan is an important tool for the implementation of the Pentagon-Phase 1 strategy as well as other policies and agendas. The premier requested that the Ministry of Planning expedite the preparation of strategic plans in a timely manner.
  2. The Premier had already given instructions during the launching ceremony of the “National Report on the Final Results of the Economic Census in the Kingdom of Cambodia 2022” on December 26, 2023. Now, the Prime Minister provides additional guidance to the Ministry of Planning to continue to increase the capacity of its officers on a regular basis for the necessary surveys and censuses, especially the ability to produce disaggregated data.
  3. In order to maximise the benefits of demographic and gender dividends and avoid the shortage of labour and the elderly population more than the young population in Cambodia after 2050, the Prime Minister requested the Ministry to reconsider demographic trends and age structure changes, as well as scenarios of social support mechanisms for youth and families, when updating the National Population Policy 2016–2030.
  4. Regarding the National School of Planning and Statistics, the Premier requested the Ministry of Planning to discuss with the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the relevant ministries turning the National School of Planning and Statistics into a public administrative institution to strengthen and expand the scope of roles and responsibilities to grow and be effective in training and accurate training of civil servants and subordinates as managers and leaders with sufficient financial resources to support quality education and training and capacity.
